PASA & EEFC GreenDrinks

9/19/2008 5:00pm - 9:00pm

Join us in our regular private party area with complimentary tapas from 5:00 to 8:00! (Walk straight in once through the door)

Meet our Special “Harvest Hosts”, Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA) and The East End Food Co-op (EEFC) to kick off a month of local sustainable food events!  PASA is hosting an entire week of local food related activities this week, appropriately named Local Food Week 2008 - showcasing local food businesses, farms, restaurants and produce from Western PA. The East End Food Co-op will be hosting its annual Art Harvest Festival on Sunday 21, 2008 and will serve as the Week's kick-off event.

PASA and EEFC are no strangers to collaboration: Together the Co-op and PASA have worked hard to answer difficult questions about food security, transportation, local economies, health and the environmental concerns in their pioneering ‘regional food infrastructure network’ reports.

The East End Food Co-op (www.eastendfoodcoop.com) is a member owned natural and organic grocery tore open to everyone, everyday in Point Breeze. As a triple bottom line business (people, planet, profit), the Co-op has supported sustainable agriculture and family farmers since it opened its doors in the 70s because, simply put, it keeps dollars here. Chris Farber, Education and Outreach Coordinator for the Co-op will be in attendance. Chris is also coordinating an effort to organize locally owned independent businesses into a network called business Alliance for Local Living Economies.

Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (www.pasafarming.org) is a statewide, member-based, sustainable farming nonprofit organization working to improve the economic and social prosperity of Pennsylvania food and agriculture. PASA creates networks and markets to strengthen the ties in the local sustainable food community, linking farmers with farmers, farmers with consumers and consumers with markets.

Featuring GREEN spirits such as Rain Vodka, Bluecoat Gin, Bonterra Chardonnay Bonterra Cabernet, Peaks Organic Pale Ale Beer and/or Peaks Organic Nut Brown Beer AND the Treehugger-tini made with Rain Vodka.

What is Green Drinks?
Every month, people who work in the environmental field or have in interest in a greener planet meet up for drinks at places all around the world at informal sessions known as Green Drinks. We have a lively mixture of people from NGOs, academia, government and business. Come along and you'll be made welcome. Just say, "are you green?" and we will look after you and introduce you to whoever is there. It's a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so there's always a different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organizing network.

These events are very simple and unstructured. Make friends, develop new ideas, do deals and forge a new organic future. It's a force for the good and we'd like to help its spreading to other cities. Pittsburgh Green Drinks meets on the 3rd Friday of each month from 5:00 - 9:00 PM...or later!! Put it in your calendar and count on it: Green Drinks is happening every month.
