About Paragon Foods
Paragon Foods started out like many of today’s other great companies. Joseph Bellin wanted to bring the freshest produce to his neighbors and friends. He started with a small storefront located in the Market Square area of Pittsburgh, selling a limited variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, in 1958.
As Joe’s son, Bill, became involved with his father’s company, he took the business to the next step. He filed the articles of incorporation and Paragon Wholesale Foods was incorporated on October 29th, 1962. Bill opened the company’s first warehouse, located on Vinial Street in the North Side of Pittsburgh. Under Bill’s leadership, Paragon Foods grew to be one of Western Pennsylvania’s finest, family owned and operated purveyors. After outgrowing the first North Side warehouse, Paragon built a larger warehouse and distribution center around the corner, in the Spring Garden section of Pittsburgh.
Soon, the third generation of the Bellin family began to work for their family’s company. Once again, Paragon outgrew its facility and in 1990, Paragon moved into a state of the art warehouse and distribution center located in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh. Under Elaine Bellin’s direction, Paragon Foods grew through strategic growth and acquisitions. In 1999, after several years of distribution, and three generations of ownership, Elaine and her team realized that they needed to become a niche player in the Western Pennsylvania market. Paragon also made the commitment to support local farmers by beginning distribution of locally grown produce. From that point, Paragon Foods became a local fresh foods distributor with its primary focus on becoming the leader in local fresh foods distribution.
Today, Paragon Foods continues to be the regional leader in local fresh foods distribution. We have created a fresh niche, offering our customers the finest produce, seafood, dairy, poultry and specialty products.
